About

Seattle Astronomy covers space and astronomy news from Seattle and the Pacific Northwest.

Greg Scheiderer writes Seattle Astronomy. His life spans the space age; he was about six weeks old when Sputnik was launched in October 1957. Greg grew up following Apollo and the race to the Moon, and has been a space and astronomy buff ever since. He has spent more than three decades in the communication business as a journalist, public relations practitioner, government relations specialist, and freelance writer. He is a member of the Seattle Astronomical Society, and served for several years as editor of its newsletter, The Webfooted Astronomer. Greg is a member of the Northwest Science Writers Association, and has written about astronomy for Alaska Airlines Magazine; Reflector, the magazine of the Astronomical League; Arches magazine at the University of Puget Sound; the “Local Group” blog on Astronomy.com; and Examiner.com.

Greg earned the Urban Observing Program Certificate from the Astronomical League in 2020.

Though Greg is a member of the Seattle Astronomical Society and we often cover SAS events, Seattle Astronomy is not associated with the society.

We made our first blog post on January 9, 2011 on SeattleAstronomy.com. In May of 2020 we migrated the site to SeattleAstronomy.blogspot.com.
